Thieves have devised a new method to steal cars using just a plastic bottle, and it’s crucial to be aware of this tactic. The trick involves placing an empty plastic bottle on top of a car’s passenger side tire, wedged between the tire and the wheel well. Unsuspecting car owners may not notice the bottle upon entering their vehicle.

Once the car is started, the driver hears the cracking sound of the bottle being crushed by the tire. This noise prompts them to exit the car to inspect the source of the sound. During this moment, many drivers leave their cars open and keys in the ignition, creating the perfect opportunity for thieves.

The method was first reported in Limpopo, South Africa, and has been widely shared in a viral video from Mexico, viewed over 6 million times. While the video aims to educate the public, police worry it also teaches potential thieves how to execute the theft.
